Double Mac, Parramatta

Double Mac in Parramatta must be the s-m-a-l-l-e-s-t hole-in-the-wall cafe that I've stumbled across so far.  The cafe is a blink-and-you-could-miss-it sliver of space located on busy Macquarie Street that serves Double Roasters coffee and snacks.

Double Mac is primary a takeaway joint that has a few seats out the front if you feel like staying for awhile.  I suppose most people are grabbing coffee on their way to the office so the lack of seats isn't a bit deal.  When I have time I always prefer to sit and enjoy my coffee...especially if I'm on holidays...so I appreciate that there are a few seats on offer.

The only breakfast/brunch/lunch offering in terms of food is toasted sandwiches that are pre-made and just waiting to be toasted. It's simple but hits the spot and a good idea for someone operating a cafe in such a small space. I opt for a toasted cheese and tomato sandwich which I think possibly came with a slice of Kraft Singles...love it.  I hoping in time the selection of ingredients expands. I can see "gourmet toasties" being a big hit as this would make a perfect Saturday breakfast...coffee and a fancy toastie.

It's a STINKING hot day when I visit Double Mac and as much as I want to try the coffee all I can face is a Charlies Blood Orange Juice.

Sadly juice has no caffeine! I was pleasantly surprised to find that Double Mac serves iced-coffee. Owner Chris has installed a small ice-machine in the cafe which makes me VERY happy! The coffee is good and really welcomed on such a HOT day.  I also grab a friand - I think it may be a lemon drizzle friand, so good!

Double Mac is at Shop 8, 85 Macquarie Street, Parramatta. They are also open on Saturday's until noon - yay for more weekend options. Owner Chris is super friendly and this little spot is a welcomed addition to the 'hood!

  1. That is a small cafe...... I see a lot of hole-in-the-wall coffee shops around. They seem to do quite well just focusing on making a good coffee?

  2. Parramatta? Where's that?? (I'M JOKING). Looks like a good spot, I actually live even further west and am rarely in Parramatta which I feel is becoming detrimental to my good eatin'. Gourmet jaffles will totally be a thing! Just look at the Jafe Jaffles truck, it's the beginning of a fancy-casual revolution.

Great find.. and sometimes the hole in the wall cafes are the best ones!

  5. That's the kind of iced coffee I like: coffee + ice (as opposed to a sugar bomb of ice cream and whipped cream).

  6. That is my kind of iced coffee too...coffee and ice and a little milk. No cream, ice cream or syrup. I like the look of this place!

Whoah that is poky! I like the Double theme though - wonder what the name of their next place will be!

  11. Yes, it's good for locals...but you have so many great places already on your doorstep.

  12. I think this is called an "iced latte" in case you ever need to order one in Sydney...it's all very confusing trying to order an iced coffee sans ice-cream these days?

  16. I agree! If you can do a few things really well then that is all you need to be successful.
