They do of course stock other things besides Kaya Toast Macarons (like cakes, breakfasts, coffee) but I don't really care all that much about that. I was here for one reason and one reason only! Give me the Kaya Toast Macaron...NOW (please). The Boy thought it tasted exactly as he remembered the Kaya Toast in Singapore - but I'm still not sure. The big pat of butter in the center sure helped my memory of Kaya Toast along but the "jam" tasted different to how I remember - less sweet perhaps. The girl behind the counter said this version of Kaya was more like what you'd find in Malaysia rather than Singapore. I didn't know that Kaya was so regionally diverse.
We did indulge in a few other Maracons - for the blog you see. The Boy went with the Salted Caramel (very good), and I choose Coconut Pandan (so pretty to look at).
Because we didn't know when we'd next be in South Yarra it seemed only wise to have "seconds" whilst we could. Another Kaya Toast macaron for me, another Salted Carmel for The Boy and a Peanut Butter + Jelly Macaron to share which was DIVINE! I just love anything with PB in it, and this was slightly sweet, slighty salty - the perfect combo.
Lux Bite are at 38 Toorak Road, South Yarra. They are open 7 days a week. Phone them on 03 9867 5888.
Oh they are pretty! Might have to pop in next time I'm in Melbs
ReplyDeleteCoconut Pandan in a macaron. I die.
ReplyDeleteSSG xxx
So pretty...I cant believe the colour in some macarons I see in my web travels :)
ReplyDeleteThose are some really interesting looking macarons :) Totally want to try PB+J flavour now!
ReplyDeleteGosh what macaron flavours will they come up with next?! These sound amazing and I love Kaya :D
ReplyDeleteOh my! What wonderful flavours! Bit of a macaron sucker myself... And I wouldn't be able to help myself around the kaya toast and coconut & pandan!
ReplyDeletei love lux bite! the slab of butter inside the kaya mac is the best!
ReplyDeleteIt's so bad to say I don't know what kaya toast is. Think google will have to be my friend right now.
ReplyDeleteOMG! WHAT! Kaya is a coconut/pandan type jam thing that is quite sweet. In Singapore they slather it on REALLY thing pieces of toasted bread that's got a big THICK pad of butter in the middle. Often you get it with a super soft boiled egg that you miss with soy and white pepper. It's SO GOOD!
DeleteIt's so hard when we just _have_ to eat things purely for the blog! ;)
ReplyDeleteI know...it's a burden really isn't it?
DeleteSouth Yarra was a must-go place for me in Melbourne too - simply for the macarons at LuxBite and the sweets at Burch & Purchese!
ReplyDeleteHehe the kaya toast macaron was what peaked my interest too! :P I didn't know that it was different from Malaysia to Singapore though. I've only had the Singaporean one.
ReplyDeleteThe coconut and pandan IS really pretty!
ReplyDeleteLove the way they set up their macarons in a rainbow style. And their kaya macaron is bliss - but maybe that's just the butter talking!
ReplyDeleteYou took really good shots! hehe love the kaya toast
