In your NYC wishlist I've done
ReplyDeleteGrimaldi's - best pizza, but betterer cause it's in Brooklyn
Katz's deli - sandwiches are HUGE
Magnolia Bakery - Our cupcake shops in Sydney are way better
Pastis - AWESOME. I had a burger, fries, red wine in a tumbler, and a rosemary pannacotta. Divine.
Momofuku Ssam bar - it's different now, but some of the best food I had in NYC
Love your wishlist Mel! I've been wanting to write up one too since last year, but have totally and utterly flaked out due to laziness. I am so stealing your idea :-)
ReplyDeleteOh thanks Sneh. I had to start keeping a list somewhere as I just kept acquiring places that I wanted to go to. Storing in them in forgetful mind wasn't going to work for long. Steal away...happy to share ideas, that's what it's all about isn't it?
ReplyDeleteHey just realized you had this... I've noticed you have The Press Club on your Melbourne list. I think this place used to be good but now it's simply riding on George's celebrity status. We've dined there 3 times now, a year apart each time and the food went from amazing to totally overcomplicated, overworked and pretentious... Maze for example, is a much better and cleaner flavor experience and a place that I definitely want to go back to. TPC is no longer that, unfortunately.
ReplyDeleteNice! Are you adding and crossing them off at the same rate? :p
ReplyDeleteWow!! Such a great idea for a list. I might have to borrow your idea if that's ok! Sooo many places to go to.
ReplyDeleteIt'd be great to make a link to your blog posts once something gets checked off!
Hey I already tweeted you -- Nom Wah Tea Parlor in Chinatown -- great articles in NYTimes about them -- they've been open for 90 years!! Follow owner Wilson Tang on twitter -- @dimsumNYC -- tweet him!!! He'll probably tweet back & meet u when youre there etc.
ReplyDeleteFor pizza places -- Masterchef was treading on some THIN INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS ICE by calling ONE parlor in NYC the "arguably best." New Yorkers are VIOLENT about their pizza. I'd just get the word on the street if I were you LOL.
Hi crunchytiger - I have to keep a list of all my "must eat one day places" as I was forgetting them all (old age)! Good idea to link back to my posts once I've ticked places off...
ReplyDeleteHey Shaun - thanks for the suggestions. I know another blogger went to Ben's Pizza as well as Grimaldi's and she loved them both (Grimaldi's was on my list before MC touted it tho...cos I'm ahead of the game like that).
ReplyDeleteI think 'Dieci e Mezzo' should be on your Canberra wishlist! James Kidman from Otto is working magic over there :)
ReplyDeleteYou can skip Almond Bar from your wish list.
ReplyDeleteThey have a really nice restaurant but in terms of price per taste ratio, it's way off the mark.
You can have a look at my review here:
http://allaboutfoodblog.com/almond-bar/
great blog thanks
ReplyDeleteHave u tried the new Asian Tapas restaurant Ho.Mei on waterloo street in Surry Hills ?
ReplyDeletehello
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Piggy - suggest you try Sushi Tengoku 121 Anzac Pde Kensington - the most massive fresh sushi and sashimi in Sydney methinks with the atmosphere of woolworths foodhall. An unusual combination of quality food and the highly informal in Japanese cuisine. I loved it, going back tonight.
ReplyDeleteHi Miss Piggy,
ReplyDeleteHere's a few more for the list:
Baroque Bistro - George St, The Rocks
Vini - Holt st, Surry Hills
Port Bar, Phillip st, Parra near the Ferry wharf
Great blog - love your work!
To add to the west:
ReplyDeletePizza Rocco, St Clair - the pizza, oh the pizza!
Cucina Viscontini, Wentworth Point (Homebush Bay) - italian deli - great pizza, housemade pasta, desserts and brekky.
Al Aseel, Greenacre
Twelve Spices, Canley Heights - try the crocodile! Seriously delish.
I had dinner with my family last week at Taste gallery parramatta. We order honey king prawn, spring roll, XO mud crab and Spiced Beef. Food was great! Many other food selection. This restaurant do serve delicious dim sum and value meal deal at lunch time.... recommended for sure. If you visit Parramatta. Must at least try once. Private room also available. I would definitely recommend Taste Gallery Parramatta to all my friend. AAA+
ReplyDeleteThis individual thinks restaurants in newhaven (as many New Yorkers feel), Nyc can be the midst of your chicken wings whole world. He or she is not just a chicken wings elitist, on the other hand.
ReplyDeleteI love this list how it reads "The West" and "The Rest" ha! There's so many good places to eat out in Western Sydney given its rich cultural diversity and I love that your blog showcases and is sending some serious love to this side of Sydney. The Where the West Things Team recently collaborated with the Daily Telegraph to write a piece about the best places to grab a bite in the south west so you should definitely take a look at these too sometime! http://wherethewestthingsare.blogspot.com.au/2014/10/mum-we-made-paper-check-out-our-feature.html
