After my successful blogger blind-date at Luxe Bakery a few weeks ago, I was feeling very brave and decided that it would be a great idea to organise a mass food blogger gathering. Along with the lovely Laura, we decided that a Saturday morning Yum Cha would be just the ticket. Invites were sent out to the Twitterverse and we ended up with 21 food bloggers and a few of their long-suffering better halves.
Thanks to the over-eager trolley dollies piles and piles of food landed on our table within moments of everyone arriving, and we all happily snapped away before tucking into the feast that lay before us. Dinning with a bunch of other food bloggers is GREAT as no-one gets mad when 40,000 pictures of each dish have to be taken. No one gets upset when the food is less than hot when they finally get to eat it.
The other great thing about dinning with such a large group is the sheer variety of food we got to sample. As well as the usual suspects of steamed dumplings, egg tarts and BBQ pork buns, I ventured into uncharted Yum Cha waters and sampled chicken feet as well as some unidentified wobbly pudding.
Overall I was really impressed with the quality of the Yum Cha at Fisherman's Wharf - before The Boy and I had even finished eating we decided we'd be heading back here ASAP.
There was a heavy leaning towards seafood (a given seeing as we were AT the fish markets) which had a few bloggers pleading for something that didn't contain prawns, but everything was fresh and really tasty. There was quite a large variety of Yum Cha on offer and something to suit everyone...even our gluten-free bloggers went home full and satisfied which I thought was great.
My favourite dish was the Salt and Pepper Prawns - however I only manged to get one before the Lazy Susan whisked them away. The prawn wontons were also great - fat juicy prawn surrounded by a crispy wonton wrapper. Lovely. The Boy and I were also taken by the juicy and succulent BBQ duck.
Laura and I nearly fell of our seats when we saw the final bill -$643.40. OMG!!! But once the bill was divided between the 24 of us it was a respectable $27 each - very reasonable considering the amount of seafood that we consumed.
