Dragon Boy operates in the way same as Mappen and Hana Hana - order your noodles at the counter, shuffle past the cabinet brimming with fried goodies (try not to take more than 2 things) , pick up any salads or sushi you heart may desire, grab a drink and then pull out your wallet and pay.
Dragon Boy gets extra *happy points* as they have Renkon Chips (Lotus Root Chips), and they are so delicious. Salty, crispy and YUM! I also really like the Edamame Tempura (.70c) and the Sweet Corn Tempura (.70c) ...all things I've never seen before.
And what about my true test of a great udon noodle joint?
That's Ontama Bukkake of course ($4.90 for a regular size), which was very scrumptious. The udon noodles here were great - imported from Japan which must make them extra bouncy (this is an udon only joint folks, not a soba noodle in sight) and the broth can be served hot or cold (hot for me please). Mr Shawn and Miss Chicken also agree that the Ontama Bukkake was pretty good - three thumbs up from all of us. A extra thumb goes up as Dragon Boy use free range eggs from Chanteclair Farms - these eggs seem to be about their health properties for humans, but from what I can discern from their website the chickens can wander outside during the day.
The Streetfood crew cannot live on udon noodles alone so they also try a few of the rice bowls on offer. The Beef Rice Bowl ($5.50) has Miss Chickens name all over it and Mr Shawn goes for the Seared Salmon Rice Bowl ($9.90) which looks really delicious. If I can ever tear myself away from the Ontama Bukkake I'll be ordering the salmon rice bowl for sure.
And me? I negotiate with the crew at the counter to let me have a half serve of Ontama Bukkake as I loved it SO much but didn't want another big bowl all to myself. Half serves of Kake Udon are on the menu for $2.50 plus $1.00 for an egg (that's a bowl of noodles swimming in a broth, rather than just the spoonful of sauce the Ontama Bukkake come with) - but for some reason the same deal doesn't apply for my beloved Ontama Bukkake. After some serious negotiations and eyelash batting I get my half serve, and grab a seaweed salad for good measure ($1.00).
