Una's, Darlinghurst

The Boy and I end up in Darlinghurst on Sunday for a birthday lunch for my my big brother "just call me Bob". We were initially trying for the Malaya at Darling Harbour but surprisingly they're not open on Sundays.

The Boy and I have a bit a chuckle at how often we end up back on Victoria Street in Darlinghurst. It's the street where we met, where we had our first date and where we got married.  We've had a few dinners at Una's so are quite chuffed to inadvertently be back here again.

Una's is pretty legendary for the size of the main meals, so I'm surprised when everyone orders entrees.  The Boy and I agree to share an entree of Crumbed Mushrooms ($9.40).  The mushrooms are juicy and flavoursome, and I love the creamy dill dipping sauce.

For main I cannot go past my all time favourite, Veal Jager Schnitzel ($19.90).  The schnitzels at Una's are always massive, and come with a hearty side of potato rosti that has a delicious crispy outer shell. The jager sauce is a creamy mushroom sauce that smothers the schnitzel.  In a word, delicious. In a few more words...too much food for even the most die hard schnitzel fan to finish!

The majority of the mains at Una's also come with a refreshing cabbage salad, sprinkled with sweet paprika.  I didn't eat too much of the salad...I was saving some stomach room for a trip across the road to Gelato Messina to try their new Pavlova Gelato (it's amazing).

Una's is at 338/340 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst. Make sure you come here with an empty stomach.

  2. This place brings back memories. I use to frequent the Broadway restaurant and always order the chicken gypsy. I was so infatuated with the potato rosti back then.

  3. I used to order the Jaeger schnitzel delivered from Una's Double Bay -it would last me for dinner, lunch and dinner but the schnitzel and the sauce were the best! Big serves but delicious.

  8. I always order the Jager schnitzel when I go to Una's as well (and take half of it home with me because it's so massive). That and the amazing crumbed camembert!
