The Best Thai, Darlinghurst

Surprise surprise we're back on Victoria Street in Darlinghurst having more food.  This suburb is like an elastic band for me...no matter how far I venture from Darlinghurst I always snap back here sooner or later.

This time The Boy and I are dinning at The Best Thai with my two foster-sisters, Miss J1 and Miss J2, who are visiting from "up north".

We decide that as visitors from out-of-town counts as a 'special occasion' we're going to go the full monty and order entrees and mains at The Best Thai, and then waddle up to Gelato Messina for gelato.

The Crispy Chicken Wings ($7.00 for 4 pieces) are crisped to perfection, allowing those of us who love eating the wings bones-and-all to get busy chomping. If you're extra lucky you might score a wing that still has a few feathers attached - that's got to be good luck somewhere right?

The Chicken Satay ($7.00 for 4 pieces) doesn't disappoint either.  The tender pieces of chicken are slathered in a rich, peanut sauce dotted with little pieces of peanut and sesame seeds. The sauce is so delicious we all pick up our spoons to scrape the plate clean.

The Boy loves the satay sauce so much that he sneakily orders a bowl of rice with satay sauce...all for him. Now who's the piggy?

Thai Beef Salad ($11.00) is one of my favourite dishes. I used to order this all the time from here when I lived around the corner on Liverpool Street so I know this dish is going to be a winner. The beef is mouthwateringly good, tender with some pieces having a little fat. The salad is studded with whole cashews, carrot strings, red onion and dressed with a lime and Thai herb dressing.  It is fresh, zesty, tasty...love!

The Chicken with Cashew Nuts ($11.50) is another lovely dish packed with crunchy, crisp vegetables. I just love the flavour of stir-fried cashew nuts.

And what would a Thai meal be without everybody's favourite, Pad Thai with Chicken ($11.00).  This contains all the usual suspects - thin noodles, bean sprouts, peanuts and a wedge of lemon to garnish.

During the meal we discuss whether The Best Thai is actually "the best Thai"?  We all agree it's pretty tasty and reasonably priced.  Miss J2 declares as far as she's concerned it is her best Thai ever...as it's the first Thai she ever eaten.  Despite having holidayed in Thailand. Incredible I know...I'm speechless too.

The Best Thai is at 261 Victoria Street, Darlinghurst.  Phone:  9356 4944.  They also have a few other restaurants around the Eastern Suburbs and also in Leichhardt.

    1. We have SO many Thai places in Sydney surely we could send a few your way. Back "in the day" I used to think rice with satay sauce was healthy. D'oh.

  3. Hold on, holidayed in Thailand and didn't eat the local food? I don't know what to say other than she could have saved the money and just gone to the Gold Coast!

    1. I know I know. I'm not blood-related to these gals so don't hold it against me, OK?

  4. I would generally avoid a place claiming to be "the best" anything, but given it's got your seal of approval I might try it if I'm in the 'hood.

    1. It's a pretty unfounded claim isn't it...but it is yummy. Maybe they should've called it Yummy Thai.

  6. Honey you're living in the wrong suburb! You need to move to Surry Hills or Darlinghurst :)

This place looks great. I had to scroll quickly pass the satay sauce though to avoid potential cravings.

  8. This actually used to be my local Thai joint when I lived in the area. Well, the thai place next to Messina is the same distance but Best Thai wins because of its lunch specials! Very tasty and reasonably priced... but hardly the best!

My only qualm is the main guy... he's soooo surly!
